Training Supervisor - Cobbs Lane Factory

You will be responsible for managing the staff training needs and supervising the Apprentice team in our Cobbs Lane Factory 
The main key areas of performance are:

Administration for Component & Upper suppliers:

  • 3rd party upper supplier orders are fulfilled within given manufacturing deadlines
  • Production lead times are managed to an agreed schedule
  • Development hand over in the factory is approved – pattern & bulk trials are scheduled and authorised by the UK Production Manager
  • Assist in the setting up of any new production facilities for Airwair, plan training for Operatives or providing supervision to produce Dr Martens footwear
  • Assisting with production methods and layouts to optimise efficiency. Review existing component suppliers and the costing of new product
  • Management controls and reporting as defined by the UK Production Manager


  • Making sure production staff achieve trained competence in their area of Dr Marten footwear production, with records being kept up to date of staff capabilities
  • Risk assessments, safe systems of work, skill matrices and training plans should all be in place for operations
  • Ensuring all staff have an annual appraisal, have clear objectives and have an up to date job description
  • Staff are motivated, spirited, feel part of a fantastic team and enjoy showing others what they do
  • Assisting in developing and maintaining an appropriate apprenticeship scheme in Lasting and Shoe Making to allow recruitment of unskilled labour and development of the next generation of shoe makers
Health & Safety, Security & the Factory Environment:
  • Ensuring substances used in production have relevant COSHH documentation and are maintained to meet all Group H&S policies and Environmental Legislation
  • All staff, employees and visitors on site are provided with and use appropriate PPE at all times
  • Staff receive relevant H&S training in order to carry out their duties safely and effectively
  • All machinery and equipment is subject to a planned maintenance schedule and kept in tip top condition
  • Lasting areas and machinery are kept clean and exceptionally tidy at all times and reflect a showcase environment of the factory
  • Making sure the factory meets all employment law and CSR criteria
Customers and Communications:
  • Assist with the Factory Tour programme and maximise the experience by training production staff to assist in the delivery
  • Making sure all activity is publicised through the company’s intranet – developing awareness around the business and team spirit within the factory
  • Assisting the UK Production Manager with the planning and execution of seasonal launches (guest days, photo shoots etc) to meet the needs of Marketing & PR
  • Leading regular briefings/meetings with staff on production and other business issues

·Experienced in all aspects of Lasting and Making manufacture

·Experience of supervising a Lasting Team

·Able to design, implement and deliver technical training to unskilled labour and assess competency of trainees

·Exceptional organisational skills

·Strong communication skills – written and spoken

·Good understanding of all internal IT systems

·Relevant technical qualification or demonstrated experience

.There may be overseas travel required for this role
