Global Health & Safety Manager

SO, WHAT’S THE STORY?

Dr. Martens has always had ‘doing the right thing’ and ‘acting with integrity’ at the heart of the way we do business. To help us achieve this, Dr. Martens is seeking an experienced, proactive, and pragmatic Global Health & Safety Manager to join our Global Risk and Compliance team.

With a global mindset and risk-based approach, the Global Health & Safety Manager will define, build, and lead our health & safety strategy and supporting programmes across our diverse retail, corporate, factory, and distribution centre workplaces around the world, including in the UK, EMEA, Americas, and APAC.


THE GIG

The Global Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for providing overall health & safety compliance oversight globally and partner with Regions and Group functions to ensure compliance with applicable health & safety laws, regulations, and standards.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with key leadership, operational, and support function stakeholders, and influence delivery through providing global and regional risk assessments and health and safety data analysis. They will also provide a framework to deliver a consistent approach to health & safety compliance fit for our business and as a PLC.

As our Global Health & Safety Manager you will be responsible for:

  • Leading and developing health and safety, define and implement a global health & safety strategy using a risk-based approach in collaboration with Regions and Group functions. Lead and develop a network of health & safety champions, setting strategic priorities and expectations while ensuring execution aligned with Dr. Martens' core values.
  • Conducting global and regional risk assessments to identify priority health & safety risks, establish policies and standards to mitigate these risks, and maintain compliance with global health & safety laws, regulations, and enforcement regimes.
  • Driving initiatives to strengthen health & safety awareness, embedding a proactive safety culture across all workplaces. Develop short- and long-term plans to enhance workplace safety and collaborate with HR and culture teams on health & wellbeing strategies.
  • Developing a jurisdictionally compliant training approach across retail, offices, manufacturing, and distribution. Oversee audits, implement action plans, manage health & safety programs, and enhance incident reporting systems.
  • Managing health & safety budgets, interface with regulatory agencies in consultation with Legal, monitor emerging health & safety trends, and ensure proactive planning for new risks and compliance challenges.


THE STUFF THAT SETS YOU APART

This is a great opportunity for a highly organised, self-driven health & safety professional with global experience and a passion for Dr Martens.

Put simply, for this role the key things we’re looking for are:

  • Educated to degree level and/or relevant qualifications, including NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards) and Certified Membership of IOSH (CertIOSH) or similar. A minimum of 5+ years of health & safety experience, with at least 3+ years in a global organisation across regions and time zones.
  • Strong understanding of UK, EU, and US health & safety legislation and standards. Experience in retail, manufacturing, and/or distribution is a plus.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement a global health & safety strategy, effectively engage and influence leadership teams, and drive organisational buy-in for health & safety initiatives. Strong team management and development skills.
  • Extensive experience in health & safety data collection, analysis, and reporting, including managing incident reporting systems. Proficient in Microsoft Office and other IT tools.
  • Collaborative, pragmatic, and risk-based approach, with the ability to operate at all levels from shop floor to senior leadership. Strong communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills with a results-oriented, “can-do” attitude.
