Human Resources Generalist - Employee Relations

As an HR Generalist with a strong focus on employee relations, performance & development, you will play a key role in shaping and fostering an environment where our employees feel engaged, valued, and empowered through effective communication and resolution of employee concerns. You will work closely with HR leadership, managers, and employees to drive initiatives that enhance employee engagement, reinforce our values, and promote an inclusive, high-performance culture. Your work will directly contribute to making Dr. Martens a place where people love to work, grow, and thrive.

THE GIG

  • Support employees, managers and HR Business Partners by serving as a primary point of contact for employees regarding workplace concerns, providing guidance and direction on next steps where necessary and redirecting as appropriate.
  • Partner with HR Business Partners on conducting investigations into employee concerns, complaints and disciplinary issues, ensuring adherence to company policies and applicable laws.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to employees and managers, providing guidance on performance management best practices, performance development and feedback/coaching methods.
  • Partner and communicate closely with all members of the HR team to ensure consistent employee experience and HR alignment on key projects, which could include performance management, succession planning, conflict resolution and learning & development initiatives.
  • Design, deliver and manage virtual and/or in-person employee training for employees on various HR related initiatives including performance management, compliance, onboarding, offboarding and development.
  • Maintain proper documentation for all employee relations matters including corrective action, performance improvement plans, individual development plans and any affiliated trainings.
  • Process employee offboarding documents including separation letters, leaver forms, severance agreements, resignation letters as well as managing leavers in all systems including partnering with payroll on any final pay check concerns.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of trainings, processes and procedures making adjustments where needed while developing and maintaining learning materials, resources and HR training schedules.
  • Stay up-to-date with labor laws and regulations to ensure compliance and mitigate legal risks.

  • Proven experience in human resources generalist roles, demonstrating expertise in collaborating with employees and leadership across all levels, led seamless employee relations related processes, and facilitated and coordinated employee training activities to enhance workplace culture and morale.
  • Passion for building a positive workplace culture, enhancing employee experience, and driving performance management & development initiatives.
  • Proven experience in conducting workplace investigations.
  • Strong ability to connect with employees at all levels, provide clear guidance, and foster relationships.
  • Capability to guide managers and employees on best HR practices, performance management, coaching, feedback, and career development.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to manage multiple HR initiatives, stay organized, and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with HRIS platforms, employee engagement tools, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace and supporting DEI initiatives.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with HR teams, leadership, and employees to drive people-focused initiatives.
  • Ability to assess situations, analyze data, and collaborate to help create solutions to HR challenges.
  • Understanding of HR policies, labor laws, and compliance requirements.
  • International/domestic travel required, 0% of travel.
  • Ability to work at a standard computer set up 40+ hours per week, with or without accommodations.
