Benefits Specialist

SO, WHAT'S THE STORY?


The HR team in the Americas has grown considerably. We are responsible for attraction, retention, and development of talent across the Americas and Canada. Our HR Operations team plays a crucial part in providing compensation, benefits, payroll and operational support to the region.


The Benefits Specialist supports the development, implementation, and management of benefits programs, as well as leave of absence initiatives. Ensuring our systems house accurate benefits data is critical, as well as reviewing our current offerings, ensuring they stay competitive and relevant to our people.


THE GIG


You are a Human Resources professional who is passionate about benefits, details, and helping people! You are responsible and reliable and understand how important confidentiality is in your role. You love contributing to making a company a better place to work. Your efficiency, organization, and approachable character will be a great fit for the HR Team! You also get the Dr. Martens brand and are excited to support the team in enhancing Dr. Martens’ total reward footprint in the Americas region.


  • Owns administration of all day-to-day benefits, including but not limited to: Enrollments, changes, and terminations; ensuring accurate recordkeeping and deductions through HRIS and provider sites; reconciling monthly benefit statements; answering benefits-related questions.
  • Assists with annual open enrollment and updating benefits materials as needed.
  • Monitors 401k administration, loans/withdrawals, responding to service requests, auditing 401k system.
  • Initial contact for benefit EDI connections including reviewing weekly files, troubleshooting issues with the Dayforce Support Team and third-party benefit vendors, and resolving benefit discrepancies.
  • Partners with third-party vendors to support leave of absence management, accommodation requests, disability claims, and Workers’ Compensation.
  • Collaborates with third party administrator on COBRA events.
  • Payroll functions, including: Auditing bi-weekly payroll register, processing 401K funding, and ensuring all benefit changes have processed accurately.
  • Partners with Internal Comms to drive benefits engagement through employee education initiatives.
  • Leads benefits presentation as part of new hire orientation program, Laying Down the Tracks.
  • Supports total reward initiatives, including but not limited to program research, employee education, policy updates, and monitoring compliance.
  • Sits on the 401k Committee.
  • Reporting responsibilities for total rewards, benefits, headcount, and other needs as requested.
  • Supporting the HR team with miscellaneous projects as assigned.

Although all HR requires top-notch people skills, this role needs someone with the ability to navigate our total rewards needs and relationships with our vendors, as well as supporting our employee population with any questions and support surrounding their benefits. To join our team, you will also possess these qualities:


  • 1-2 years in a benefits-focused HR role.
  • Basic knowledge of federal and state leave laws, ERISA, ACA, and ADA.
  • HR & Payroll system experience required, previous work in Dayforce preferred.
  • High level of ethical standards to handle sensitive and confidential situations and information.
  • Very strong organizational skills with an excellent attention to detail, ability to juggle multiple tasks, prioritizing appropriately to get things done.
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves to get any task done.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills a must.
  • Aptitude for critical thinking and problem solving.
  • International/domestic travel 0%.
  • Ability to work at a standard computer set up 40+ hours per week, with or without accommodations.
